PIPS JOURNEY
I always knew I wanted something more... I actually used to dream about paintbrushes and dyes or paints but it wasn't till I was over 40 and home with small children that the opportunity to take brush and dye in hand, occurred.
I attended a craft show in Townsville in 1999 and watched a lady painting on silk, immediately I was hooked! I returned home and asked my husband if he could make me up a large frame as I had bought a pre-drawn silk scarf which just needed to be coloured in with dye.
After many of these were completed, I decided I would take the gutta (paste to draw outlines) and try to paint my own outlines... This took off and I sold thousands of silk paintings for 5 years at the local Cotters markets each Sunday.I framed these myself and had a successful little business happening and selling these to travelers from all over the world.
After this period of frogs, turtles, emus and all things touristy, I burnt myself out and gave up painting completely for 10 years!! I continued with advancing my nursing career, until 2015, when I was asked to paint a workmate's young daughter, a peacock. She then posted the smiling little girl holding my painting on Facebook and I realized how much I enjoyed giving joy to people through my art.
And so, the journey continues...
THE PRODUCTS
The kaftans and kaftan tops are made using Redbubble scarves and sewn up locally by local home sewers here in Townsville, in consultation with me..
Redbubble products are high-quality polyester, the scarves feel silky, the A-Line dresses are soft, the leggings are durable lycra..all can be ordered through the Redbubble link attached to this website, they outsource all over the world so the products are made as close as possible to the customer for speedy delivery.
In this way my art can continue to work for me and one day, I may be able to actually use it as my livelihood, until that day you will see me still, racing around the wards.
